Wendy and I have been warning small business owners for over a year now. Google planned to use the speed of your website as a variable to influence the overall ranking of your website in the search engine results pages. As of July 9, 2018 Google, began implementing this ranking factor!

This Google Speed Update is specific to the mobile version of your website. Google has been using the speed variable on desktop website versions since 2010. However, Google has been working to improve users mobile search experiences for several years now. Google has been rolling out its mobile-first index for the past few months as well. The mobile-first index is a new set of Google’s algorithms to rank pages based on the mobile content of the website, as opposed to the desktop version of the website.

Keep in mind, over 40% of users will leave a site that doesn’t load within 3 seconds! And, most mobile users are still connecting over a 3G network

Use the following tools to check the speed of the mobile version of your website:

Google PageSpeed Insights

As always, if you need some help determining the speed of your mobile site, and how to improve it … don’t hesitate to give Wendy a call! We know we can help!
