A lot of people use Google’s Chrome browser to search the internet – nearly 60% of all internet users. This means approximately 60 % of the people who visit your website do so using the Chrome browser.
For the past few years, Google has been warning us that they would prefer all websites to be hosted in a secured environment. They began in 2014, when Google started to use secured hosting as a search engine result ranking factor.
Now, as of the release of Google Chrome 68 (scheduled for July 2018), Google will actually start marking unsecured websites in the address bar of web pages displayed in their browser.
When users actually see a warning in the browser that the website isn’t secured, it can signal the site as a higher risk, or low-quality site. This may encourage website visitors to leave your site and visit a competitor’s site instead.
