Another fabulous client of ours is So Much Yarn. We were introduced to Lauren Lindeman back in 2005 through our weekly networking meetings. A fellow member had met Lauren via his online dating efforts. And, although the relationship didn’t grow, an opportunity for us to build Lauren an online ecommerce store to compliment her downtown Seattle yarn shop did! Last year, Lauren sold the shop to move onto other projects, and we had the pleasure of meeting Betty Clune, the new shop owner.
Lauren challenged us with expanding her website to not only include an online store where she could sell yarn, but also a major integration with her quarterly knitting classes, online calendar and registration system. It was a challenging and fantastic build, which had us creatively integrating different website modules to work well together.
One of Lauren’s early concerns about purchasing an online store, was her understanding that she would need to provide images for each of the different skeins of yarn she offered for sale. As a young company, eager to please our new client, we told Lauren it would be no problem at all. We would be happy to obtain the images from distributor and manufacturer website, to add to her online store. Big lesson learned! We had absolutely no idea just how many hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of images we would need to locate, crop, optimize, upload and add to the website. Thankfully, we had summer interns that year (our nieces April and Brianna). And boy did we laugh and laugh when one evening, after a very long day of finding and optimizing images, Brianna exclaimed, “Aunt June, So Much Yarn is a good name, but I really thing the business should be called, ‘TOO Much Yarn!’”
We’ve spent the past year getting to know and working with Betty as she continues to offer knitting and crocheting classes, from the beginner to the advanced. Betty has worked very hard over the past year to learn the wonderful things the website offers her customers. The admin tool allows her to most all of the updates and changes herself. From loading the tons of classes, descriptions and meeting times into the calendar, to setting up each class for the online registration process. Additionally, Betty inherited our bulk email system with a contact list of thousands of yarn lovers. Each quarter she emails the upcoming class information.
