Google wants all website to be more secure. They want all website to be hosted on https:// as opposed to https://. Less than .1% of all websites are hosted in a secure environment. In fact, as of January 2017, Google will begin marking all https:// hosted websites as NON-secure.
This is nothing new, from Google’s perspective. They’ve been encouraging website owners to move to https:// since August 2014. It was at this point in time, that Google started giving an SEO bump to sites that are hosted in a secured environment.
Granted, due to the additional site and server configuration, as well as the additional costs associated with secured certificates, you’ll need to budget for a more expensive monthly hosting fee.
