End of Year Blog Review

If you have ever attended one of our webinars or workshops, Wendy has tried to drill into your head the extreme importance of having a blog as part of your website.  That being said, of course you took her advice and have begun to blog!  So, now it is a great time to take a look at your blog to determine the improvements you can make.

Branding and Design of Your Blog

Take a fresh look at your blog.  Is your blog designed to speak to your target audience?  Readers make quick judgements regarding if they like your blog, based on the design, look and feel.  Do you make readers feel welcome, and that they have arrived at the perfect place to learn what they are seeking?

Things to check include:

  • pleasing to the eye
  • reader-friendly
  • describe who you are
  • consistent colors and fonts
  • signup box easily found
  • all links are working
  • easy to use social media sharing

Navigation of Your Blog

Difficult to use, or hard to find what users want on a blog is a quick way to lose readers.  Double check to make sure your blog is easy to navigate for all readers.  Have your teenage nephew or grandma take a look to see if they can easily navigate around your blog page.

Things to check include:

  • search function to easily find blog post topics
  • all blog posts are dated
  • contact us link
  • about us link
  • links to your products or services
  • no broken links
  • no broken images
  • subscription signup for RSS or email

Content and Regular Posting

Be honest ... are you posting regularly to your blog?  If you are still new to blogging, set a realistic goal such as once per week.  You really do want to get your routine up to once per week.  Also, Google is all about the quality of your blog posts.  Be sure you are offering useful, educational information on your blog.

Things to check include:

  • posting on the same day (or date) each time
  • variety of types of posts
    • articles
    • resources
    • polls / surveys
    • videos
    • podcasts

After you've completed your audit, set a few new goals to implement in the coming months.  Putting effort into improving your blog will result in the growth of your community as well as the overall growth of your business.
