Get Found Locally - Part 1: How Local Listings Work

Local Business Listings are the foundation of any small business’s local online marketing strategy. A local listing for your business, is an online profile with details about your business, such as:

  • Company Name
  • Address
  • Phone Number
  • Products & Services
  • Hours of Operation
  • And, other information about your business

Local listings help potential customers find your business when they are searching for your specific products or services.

Claiming, creating and completing your local listings is extremely important. There are literally thousands of different business local listings and directories available for you to list your business. At the very minimum, you should claim and update the following listings:

  • Google Business Profile
  • Bing Places for Business
  • Yelp
  • Internet Yellow Pages
  • Trip Advisor
  • Foursquare

Additionally, local business listing in any index, require your business meet the following criteria:

  • Have a business name or DBA
  • Have a local phone number that matches your city of location (not a shared phone number, toll-free number, or call tracking number)
  • Have a dedicated physical street address (not a shared address, PO box, or virtual office)
  • Make face-to-face contact with your customers (business is not conducted virtually)
