This week we explore ways you can use other social media channels to test the engagement potential of your Facebook posting content. For example, you can post short blips on Twitter of the Facebook content you intend to use. Check the engagement on Twitter – the retweets, clicks, likes and replies. Then, only post the most engaging content on Facebook.
Additionally, Facebook just last week announced a new feature to encourage and inspire more engagement of your posts by your friends and followers. The feature is called, “What friends are talking about.” – Its goal is to encourage more conversation on Facebook.
The feature collects a few of your friend’s recent posts and places them in a dedicated section at the top of your news feed – where not only are they easily viewed, but you can also see how many comments each post has received. Keep watching the top of your newsfeed for this new feature to be displayed.
Make the Photos You Post Look Great
It’s a bummer when you post an image to Facebook, only to have everyone’s head chopped off! Knowing the dimensions that Facebook uses, and taking a quick minute to resize your images, will ensure the photos you post, always look great!

Use a program like https://www.picmonkey.com to edit your images before you post them.
Write Longer Posts
Facebook posts that are longer than 80 words typically produce more than 2x the engagement than do shorter posts. Your Facebook audience wants to read what your write … so write more!
Different Punctuation Generates Different Results
Test what might work best with your Facebook audience! Posts with hashtags (#) receive 60% more interactions. Posts with exclamation points (!) receive 2.7% more interactions. Posts that ask questions (?) receive 23% more engagement.
Make URL/Link Post Title Short
When you are posting a link to Facebook, if the title of the post is longer than 100 characters, click on the title to edit it. Titles that are longer than 100 characters are cut off when posted to the newsfeeds of your fans.
Don’t Forget to Post After Business Hours – and Even on Weekends!
Post at various different times, throughout the day.
Posts between 5 p.m. - 1 a.m. Experience 11% more interactions than those published during the day (8 a.m. - 5 p.m.). Experience 29% more interactions than those published before work (1 a.m. - 8 a.m.).
Don't forget - Sundays get 25% more likes, shares, and comments than weekday posts. You really increase your opportunity for engagement since fewer than 18% of posts are published on weekends. Less people are posting over the weekend!
